Startup Spring Break

The Basics
Startup Spring Break is a free week-long entrepreneurship bootcamp for middle school girls run in partnership with Google. The 2019 camp included 28 students from 23 schools. Watch 2019 highlights!

Why Should You Apply

  • Connect to successful female entrepreneurs
  • Build relationships with a peer group of like-minded talented female students
  • Gain exposure to entrepreneurship and Chicago’s entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Develop the skills you need to become an entrepreneur

Throughout the week, students will create an app-based business idea and pitch. These activities will culminate in a community showcase at Google, where students will show off their entrepreneurial knowledge and business pitches to family members, volunteers, entrepreneurs, and others.

Who Can Participate
Participating students should hard-working, motivated and passionate about exploring entrepreneurship. The camp will push students outside their comfort zones and help them build leadership, confidence and entrepreneurial skills. Students should be current 6th through 8th-grade girls from Chicago Public Schools and not have participated in Startup Spring Break.

Application Process

Applications will open in spring 2020. You can email ellen@futurefounders.com to get notified when applications open!

Background
Careers in computer science continue to grow at three times the national rate of other fields, however women are still dramatically underrepresented in entrepreneurship and technology. In fact, the number of women in computer science has actually gotten worse over the last 30 years, and if this trend continues only 20 percent of women will hold computing jobs in 2025. That is why creating an inclusive environment to learn about entrepreneurship and technology – particularly for middle school age girls – like Startup Spring Break is so important.
