Future Founders Ignite provides intensive out-of-class experiences to immerse our most motivated students into the entrepreneurial ecosystem and help them build key skills. The program is targeted at elementary and high school students who completed Future Founders Discover, but is open to other students citywide. Ignite offers intensive multiple-day events for the highest performing students from each program cycle. Through these higher dosage offerings, students build relationships with likeminded peers and gain from deep learning opportunities.
Through Ignite, Future Founders offers two types of free entrepreneurship camps run out of 1871 that:
- Connect students to successful entrepreneurs
- Create a peer group of like-minded talented students
- Provide exposure to entrepreneurship and Chicago’s entrepreneurial ecosystem
- Help students build the skills they need to become entrepreneurs
During the camps, students will create an app-based business idea and pitch. These activities will culminate in a community showcase where students will show off their entrepreneurial knowledge and business pitches to family members, volunteers, elected officials, and others.
Startup Spring Break Camp
Startup Spring Break is a free week-long entrepreneurship bootcamp for middle school girls run in partnership with Google Chicago. The 2017 camp included 29 students from 20 schools and took place April 7-13, 2017. Applications for the 2018 program will open in early 2018.
“Be Your Own Boss” Summer Entrepreneurship Camps
The “Be Your Own Boss” Summer Entrepreneurship Camps are two week-long camps that take high school students through the business development process. Future Founders is offering three camp sessions in 2017:
- Session 1: June 26-30 & July 24-28
- Session 2: July 10-14 & July 24-28
- Session 3: July 17-21 & July 24-28
Participating students should be hard-working, motivated and passionate about exploring entrepreneurship. The camps will push students outside their comfort zones and help them build leadership, confidence and entrepreneurial skills. Eligible students must have completed their freshman year of high school by June 2017 and not have completed the “Be Your Own Boss” Summer Entrepreneurship camp previously. The camps will focus exclusively on students from underserved areas of the city, with priority to students enrolled in Chicago Public Schools.
Summer 2017 applications are open and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
